Now this commercial hit a few biggies for me. Obviously that theme of global connection and community. The childhood throwback with the song brought up pretty strong feelings of nostalgia, plus, who doesn't know that song? And I really loved how they hit a lot of shows from their network which made me appreciate their company a bit. Granted, I don't know much about the Discover Channel and who the parent company is or all the shows on the network, but it definitely gave that family style company vibe, where the people who worked there love being part of that community, and just plain love what they do. Plus, Discovery is right, the world is a pretty damn beautiful place.
There is not much science behind the ads that I post about, they just simply touched me in some way. So sorry if a lot of my comments in a post are 'I liked it!' Maybe eventually, there will be some analysis. But this blog is mostly for fun, and to keep track of commercials or ads that I really loved.

Discovery Channel "I Love The Whole World"
Now this commercial hit a few biggies for me. Google Zeitgeist
Zeitgeist: "the intellectual fashion or dominant school of thought that typifies and influences the culture of a particular period of time" - Wikipedia
I am absolutely in love with Google's Zeitgeist project. Like, in love. I just think it is the coolest. The data they have is probably the most global that I can think of. Now granted, I don't really know much about anything in the tech world, but I'm all about the human story. It just reminds me about how much bigger the world is.
I mean it doesn't hurt that Google showcases the success of the year, but it is honestly inspiring and comforting to me, to see these, with all the awful things you hear about in the news day in and day out.
Admitedly, the more current ones work a little better, but I admire the project, and think it is a new way of writing history.
Google's Ads
I decided to start this blog, because in a world dominated by some truely awful, repetitive advertisements, there are some gems out there. I appreciate when a company puts more into their ads then just the obvious objective to sell. Yes, at the end of the day, all commercials or print ads are aimed to make some sort of profit, and the more successful ones tend to hide that better, but they can still be beautiful.
I guess for my first post I wanted to highlight one of the organizations that I believe put a lot of thought into commercials. Not all of them are gold. They tend to have different styles or running themes depending on what they are advertising. For example, the Chromecast's "For Bigger Fun" ads that they have lurking around every corner right now are nothing to cheer about. But there a few that, for me at least, really really hit the mark, and get at the heart at what Google is able to do for the global community: making human connection. To me, that is noble. I may be a softie, but these commercials make me feel the warm and fuzzies inside, even bring me to tears is I'm in the right mood. I guess they give me hope, which is a really nice surprise when I'm not expecting it. Having this commercial pop up before a movie at the theater or between episodes of Parks and Rec, well, it just pauses my day for a second. So cheers Google.
